Want to try night diving? scared? Well, this articule will help calm your nerves.

Night diving can be an exciting experience, but it can also be nerve-wracking. Here are some ways to calm your nerves before a night dive:

  1. Take deep breaths: Deep breathing can help calm your nerves and reduce anxiety.
  2. Visualize the dive: Visualizing the dive beforehand can help you feel more comfortable and confident. Dive at that same site just prior or earlier in the day.
  3. Stay relaxed: Try to stay relaxed and avoid tensing up.
  4. Stay warm: Being cold can make you feel more anxious so make sure you’re wearing appropriate gear, a thicker wetsuit, or even a dry one (yes, this helps me).  Putting on a wet wetsuit in the dark, is the worst.
  5. Stay hydrated: Dehydration can make you feel more anxious so make sure you’re drinking enough water. Do not drink alcohol.  It most definitely will not help calm your nerves.
  6. Dive with others and friends:  Diving with experienced divers or friends, is much more enjoyable, plus give you something to talk about at the dinner table.  If you are not familiar with the dive site, consider hiring a dive guide.
  7. Use really bright lights: Our good friends who were newly dive certified decided to join us at Cayman this past April. One of them was terrified and made the comment that she would never be able to do a night dive. The night before, she stayed back while the rest of us went. For one friend, it was his first night dive. When we surfaced, he made the comment that it was as bright as day with all our lights. After returning to our room, blasting with energy and talking about everything we had seen, she had decided that next night she would try it. She hasn’t taken a step back since. She loved it!
  8. Dive with your own gear: It’s much safer to dive with equipment you’re familiar with.  You are also more efficient with your buoyancy.

Reasons to do a night dive!

There are several reasons why divers might want to try night diving. Here are some of them:

  1. Different creatures: Divers can see different creatures at night.
  2. Challenging: Night diving is challenging and some people love to be challenged.
  3. Fluorescent Diving: What an amazing experience that is only possible at night.
  4. Focus: Divers can focus easier than daytime diving.
  5. Better vision: Divers can have better vision with less (and focused) light.
  6. Coral reefs become more active at night.

In conclusion, night diving can be an exciting and unique experience for divers. It offers divers an entirely new perspective underneath the water.  Night diving is challenging and some people love to be challenged. Fluo Diving is a new experience and one of the things I love most about night diving.
